A Pantry and Some Wires

By last Friday David and the gang had framed in the pantry, and the plumbing had been started. The french doors are here, but not installed as yet. Jack worked on the electrical wiring over the weekend. There won't be much more visible progress for a while since Jack had to send the guys to Austin to work on another job for two weeks. All of this is a reminder of what we went through 25 years ago. We moved into our house way before it was completed. Back then, we set up a temporary kitchen in the garage. Oh yeah, and we had a 4 month old baby too. This situation is a piece of cake compared to that!

And We're Dry!

I don't know how he did it, but David and the guys managed to get our kitchen "dried in" in spite of the rain! It is so much more like an actual room now.

Jack and I spent most of Saturday selecting and purchasing appliances. Today, Jack started working on the wiring, and I was back to packing! Ashley even came out to lend a hand. She has a little bit of experience at moving! Thanks Ash!

A Room With a View

Although it isn't roofed yet, the kitchen window is in. I think I'm really going to love the view. Once the French doors are in the back, we'll have so much more light too. It's raining this morning, so it's not a very good day to work on the "drying in".

Two-Step Anyone?

Now this is what I call progress! Yesterday when I came home, Jack and I started dancing across our new kitchen subfloor. Yeehaw! Zoe is so glad David made her a new place to play too. It's so much easier to visualize the size of things now.

Really Breezy Without a Breezeway

Okay, things look like they're moving rather slowly, but there has been lots going on. As you can see in the photo, the breezeway is gone. This presents a few challenges for coming and going, but we've gotten pretty good at going out the back door anyway!

The new piers are in place, and in all this demolition, a few structural problems were uncovered, so repair work has been completed.

I spent most of Saturday boxing up the utility room in order to make way for our temporary kitchen. I need more boxes! We've selected most of the appliances and the granite for the countertops.

Tomorrow they'll start the framing and hope to be "dried in" by Friday.

I hope you all can see this version of the plan. I'd love to hear any ideas you might have to offer. Although we have wanted this for a long time, we haven't been planning for all that long.
